Grass Seeding

Seed, Sod, and Hydroseeding

There are three ways to install or replace the grass on your lawn: seeding, sodding or hydroseeding. Your Grounds Maintenance Professional will help you choose the right method for you.

Seeding

Grass Seed

Seeding is the practice of planting grass seeds all over the area where you want a lawn to grow. Grass seed is the cheapest to install, but is very slow to grow (can take several months). It also requires a lot of care and protection from things like wind and birds that can displace your seeds.

Sodding

Sod

Sodding is the method of installing grass that is already fully-grown. It comes in the form of strips that have been cut out of a field and rolled up. These strips can then be unrolled and installed as a lawn. It’s the easiest to install but it takes constant care & watering to make sure the root system gets started properly.

Hydroseeding

Hydroseeding is an efficient and inexpensive method of seeding a lawn. It’s the process of combining a mixture called a “slurry” (seed, mulch, fertilizer, soil amendments, and water) in a Hydroseeder tank, and then applying that mixture to the intended surface using high pressure. The hydroseeder keeps the slurry evenly mixed. This process will induce  speedy seed germination and you will see a new lawn sprout much faster than traditional grass seed planting methods.
